no place i'd rather be

T Street proudly opens with a brand new solo exhibition by Birmingham based artist Gay Place

The works presented in Gay Place’s solo show at T Street Gallery are a reflection of her material practice; queering the domestic with a quiet tongue in cheek sense of humour. The articulation of intimacy and sensuality through material awareness and manipulation frequently references elements of physical identity alongside lived experience and understanding.

Considerations of the body and of being human are inexhaustible resources for reflection and creativity and the works in the exhibition are ephemeral and fragile, transient and unstable; exploring sensual and sensorial familiarity through materiality. Using simple actions and materials to transform our way of representation and thinking about the body, Gay reveals suggestions of bodies whilst also considering the performance of genders and sexuality.

Gay Place is a Birmingham based artist and senior technician at Birmingham City University.  She is currently studying for her PhD.

Please note: T Street Gallery is situated on the top floor of 55 Great Tindal Street and is only accessible by several flights of stairs.
